Stirring sunrises and sunsets on gracious peaks, flowered meadows with sparkling streams, and a great expanse of pure-air country—welcome to the wonderland that is the High Lonesome Ranch! is a fertile valley of serene repose on the western slope of the Colorado Rockies, home to the High Lonesome. At over 300 square miles, the property is a vast territory of sumptuous scenery, but when you’re here, you’ll savor its many intimate pleasures.

Enjoy the plush and comfortable master suites (with private bathhouses) in one of its two primary guesthouses or socialize in shared accommodations. Savor the contemporary ranch cuisine of renowned Texas chef Doug Atkinson every evening; he might serve you a wood-fired cowboy rib-eye with red-chile steak butter, or perhaps an oak-roasted pheasant breast with habanero-peach chutney. Doug often chooses to grill outdoors where guests can watch, talk, and participate as they sip local wines and stargaze by the fire pit. The ranch features many comfortable common areas for evening socializing with refreshments. Guests use the ranch's golf carts to get around.

Recreation and Activities

A fleet of vehicles driven by ranch staff transports will transport you to your choice of to more than a dozen recreational activities. Here are a few:

Great Hunting and Fishing

In the fall, hunt pheasant, Hungarian and chucker partridge, and Scaled and Gambel’s quail with English pointers and Labrador retrievers. Two full-time dog trainers are on the property, and the ranch has a new, 46-dog kennel. Warm up for your day of hunting with an assortment of shooting games, which range from 5-Stand, a Driven Flurry, and a Pheasant or a Quail Walk.

The ranch is only a half-hour’s drive from either of two area airports—Grand Junction Regional Airport (Walker Field) or Garfield County Regional Airport. Airport pickups are available on request.
